Welcome to the Seattle Robotics Society!

The Seattle Robotics Society was formed in 1982 to serve those interested in learning about and building robots. We are a non-profit corporation comprised of a diverse group of professionals and amateurs, high school students and college professors, engineers and tinkerers. Our passion is the creation of cybernetic creatures that challenge the old definitions of life, intelligence, and practicality. See the SRS Programs page for information on the activities that the SRS does to help promote robotics. There is also information there on getting started in robotics. HomeAbout SRSMeetingsContact Us Getting StartedWorkshop Robot EncoderRobothonFIRST WAWAR Google Announcements January and February meeting locations will be temporarily changed; more information coming later... Workshop Robot Level 1 classes are scheduled for (November 22,) December 6th, and December 13th. Please see the Workshops page for details and information on registering. Meetings Our regular meetings are at 10am on the third Saturday of each month at Renton Technical College. After the meetings we typically head out for pizza; specific details about lunch are on the meetings page. Below are the planned presentations for upcoming meetings. The Presentations page contains an archive of presenters and their topics. December 20, 2008 Robot Sensors - Steven Kaehler will present on robot sensors, what they are, how they work, where to get them, and talk about robot localization methods. January 17, 2009 Technology at Seatac Airport - Wally Wesson, Team Leader of the Port of Seattle BDU group, will do a demonstration and discussion on their Hazardous Duty Robot. The Port's robot is a product of REMOTEC, a Northrup Grummen subsidiary. Their unit is comparible to a current Model F6A. Other Hazardous Duty Robots are available from Allen Vanguard: Vanguard and Defender; iRobot: Pacbot and R-Gator; Mesa Associates; and Foster Miller: Talon. Some of these types of robots are only available for purchase by police, security, and military organizations. February 21, 2009 Tesla Roadster - Tom and Cathy Saxton will present on the Tesla Roadster, a battery-powered electric vehicle. March 21, 2009 "SuperBird 1.00" controller - Professor Bruce Hemingway will talk about the "SuperBird 1.00" controller and computer soccer. April 18, 2009 Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology - Yoky Matsuoka will talk about her research into future assistive and rehabilitation technology by merging robotics and neuroscience. Search for "Yoky Matsuoka" at SeattleTimes.com to find articles about her research, including her recent attendance at the Neural Engineering Workshop. May 16, 2009 FIRST Robotics Competition - Local FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Teams are invited to come show their robots, explain the 2009 competition, and describe the challenges they faced this year. June 20, 2009 Robotic Interface in Performance Measurement and Assessment - Professor Mika N. Sinanan, MD, PhD, (President, University of Washington Physicians Professor of Surgery) will present on the role of a robotic interface in performance measurement and assessment. July 18, 2009 Brain-Robot Interfaces - Professor Rajesh Rao, Associate Professor at UW (CS department) will talk about brain-robot interfaces. Monday Night Chat The Seattle Robotics Society hosts a "Monday Night Chat" each week at 7pm Pacific Time. Details are on the Contact Us page.
